(Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. Education and support for moms who breastfeed: WIC has specially trained staff to answer your breastfeeding questions. Ask for more information about our breast pump loan program. Provides social service and health program for Native Hawaiians aged 60 and over. Serves lunch meal each day. Provides transportation within limited geographical distance to and from site. Provides escort service to medical appointments and other related services. Offers friendly visiting, telephone reassurance and referrals to other community agencies.

Works to improve and maintain individual and community health. Addresses the following key areas: healthy community development (coalition development, community health organization, community strategic planning, facilitation, assisting grant writing, needs assessment, evaluation methodology in community health), risk reduction (includes tobacco prevention/education, physical activity promotion, chronic dieases, and injury prevention and control). Conducts community and professional education and training in public health education practices, methodology, and principles. Provides consultation and technical assistance in public health education. Provides specialized training in child passenger safety (certified technician and instructor).

Prevents and suppresses outbreaks of vector-borne diseases and serious vector nuisances through inspections, surveillance, monitoring, enforcement, consultation and education in the control of harmful vermin such as insects that bite or are a public nuisance such as ants, sand flies, and other insects. Also gives public advice on small animals and insects causing a problem in or near a home or building such as mice, roaches, flies, gnats, mites, rats, and nesting birds. Offers information and advice to individuals experiencing pest problems. Accepts birds that the public drops off for West Nile testing. They no longer spray for mosquitos.

Administers the Occupational Safety and Health Law and the Boiler and Elevator Safety Law. Conducts investigations of workplace catastrophes or fatalities and employee complaints regarding workplace hazards. Provides consultation to employers and training to employers and employees to encourage voluntary compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Law standards and rules. Inspects boilers, pressure systems, amusement rides, elevators and similar equipment.

Gives the opportunity for people to garden with the Community Recreational Gardening Program, providing them with land and water. All other improvements and services shall be provided by the gardeners. Each Community Garden is run by a self-governing body following general rules and regulations set up by the City and County of Honolulu. Early Intervention Services are for children from birth to age three who have developmental concerns and focuses on improving the physical, cognitive, communicative, adaptive, social and emotional development of the child. As parents are the child’s first teachers, services are provided through one primary early intervention professional using parent coaching strategies. In addition, the program helps families by providing information, demonstrations and support to caregivers that helps them better understand their children’s developmental needs and how to meet them. Care coordination is available to help families utilize resources at home and in the community. Operates a thrift store selling low cost clothing, furniture, household goods, toys and more. Proceeds benefit vocational training and job placement programs for people with barriers to employment.

Assists persons recovering from mild to catastrophic strokes who may need to make major physical and psychological adjustments to cope with paralysis, speech problems, cognitive deficits, swallowing disorders, and visual perception difficulties. Assesses and treats swallowing disorders. Provides mobility training or wheelchair skills. Develops adaptive techniques and custom-designed equipment. Provides speech theraphy. Computer therapy for visual, perceptual, and cognitive training. Stroke Support Group meets every first Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. Everyone (patient, family, caregivers, etc.) is welcome, there is no membership fee.

Serves as the Area Agency on Aging and focal point for aging programs for the City and County of Honolulu designated under the Older Americans Act of 1965: 1) Plans, coordinates, advocates for and develops community based programs and services to meet the growing needs of older adults and their family caregivers 2) Contracts with agencies to provide supportive and long term care services that help elders remain at home 3) administers Senior Information and Assistance Program. Elderly Affairs Division is primarily an admnistrative agency which plans, develops, coordinates, and funds aging and caregiver programs. It also provides direct information and referral services to the public through its Senior Information and Assistance Unit.

(Strong Families Home Visiting Oahu) This program provides comprehensive and culturally appropriate professional and paraprofessional home visitation services to families with children ages birth to 3 years old. Program participants are referred by Child Welfare Services, Voluntary Case Management, or Family Strengthening Services programs. Service interventions reduce child abuse and neglect risks, increase family self-sufficiency, address family stressors, and improve child adjustment and achievement. Provides comprehensive home visitation, child development screening and intervention, as well as psychosocial assessment, and motivational treatment readiness services to Child Welfare Services (CWS) and CWS Diversion clients. The intensity of the program varies over the course of service, starting with weekly home visits, and reducing the frequency as the family and child meet their goals. Services include a a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor and Registered Nurse.

Conducts surveillance and investigation of communicable diseases (other than tuberculosis, Hansen's Disease, and sexually transmitted diseases). Implements control measures necessary to decrease and prevent infectious disease, including provision of vaccines to health care providers. Provides information to the public about infectious diseases and immunizations. Provides patient referral letters for a free (STDs) chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis test.

Private Christian school includes grades PK- high school for boys and girls. Program prefers clients to call for details.

Issues commercial and individual fishing licenses and permits. Researches the biology, ecology and use of fishery resources. Serves as federal liaison when protected marine animals are stranded. Species include monk seals, sea turtles, whales. Documents ocean and river water pollution incidents such as oil and chemical spills. Conducts public education on marine and fresh water information through community and educational groups.

(American Red Cross of Hawaii) Provides immediate emergency assistance to victims of disasters, including food, shelter, clothing, crisis counseling and other services. (DUA) --The deadline for filing DUA is June 15, 2026, which is 60 days from the disaster declaration date. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered untimely, and DUA benefits may be denied unless the individual provides good cause for late filing.-- Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is available for eligible unemployed employees, self-employed individuals, farmers, and fishermen engaged in business at the time of the disaster. Eligibility for DUA benefits is determined on a week-to-week basis for each week a claim is filed. Eligible individuals may receive DUA benefits beginning the week of March 15, 2026, through the week ending October 10, 2026.
