Friends of the Library of Hawai'i (FLH) exists to promote and support the fifty public libraries that make up the Hawai'i State Public Library System. FLH promotes literacy, education, and library services. The organization supports librarians in continuing education opportunities and offers scholarships for graduate students at the University of Hawaii interested in a library career. FLH fundraises throughout the year through a number of book sales as well as a golf tournament. Volunteers are needed for events and for year-round sorting and pricing of books and media. (Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. (VISTA, Volunteer in Service to America) Volunteers can serve as a VISTA, a VISTA leader, or a VISTA summer associate.
