CancerCare provides limited financial assistance to people affected by cancer. As a nonprofit organization, funding depends on the sources of support we receive at any given time. If we do not currently have funding to assist you, our professional oncology social workers will always work to refer you to other financial assistance resources. Please check our website periodically for funding updates. Please note: CancerCare’s financial assistance does not cover basic living expenses such as rent, mortgages, utility payments, or food.

The Always Reading program works with partner schools to provide families of Pre-K and K students with a tablet, unlimited access to a digital children’s library featuring 40,000 diverse titles, gifted hard-copy books for their home libraries throughout the year, and a book coach. Students take the tablet home and our book coaches work with the families via text message to support and empower families to build strong reading routines in the home. Families keep the tablets once the program is complete.

(DOTAX) State of Hawaii Department of Taxation - Oahu collects State taxes, provides information and assistance on preparation of tax forms, provides assistance to the elderly and the disabled in filing State tax credits, issues general excise tax licenses, and furnishes State tax forms. Develops programs at each school based on school community and parent needs. Coordinates parent volunteers for special activities, e.g., classroom aides. Provides parent education, homework center, tutoring, literacy program, support groups, and workshops.

(COVID-19 Testing) Does not turn anyone away that wants to get tested for COVID-19. Priority is given to the Kalihi Palama Health Center (KPHC) existing clients, those that are sick and have COVID-19 sypmtoms as well as the KPHC staff. KPHC provides documentation for employer, individuals that need to get tested to provide documentation for their employer, etc. will be at the bottom of the priority list to get tested. If an individual provides a referral from their doctor, the COVID-19 test results will be forwarded to their doctor and their doctor will notify them.

The Hawaii Workers Center (HWC) opened the Kokua Fund applications for one-time financial assistance of $100 - $500 for workers impacted by the storms. Call or email for an initial screening. Applications will be sent out after the screening.

Fares are capped and your money goes toward a pass. Once you spend the amount of a pass, you ride the rest of the day or month for free. Adult fares are $7.50. Transfers are free within 2.5 hours of riding the vehicle.

(EHCY, Homeless Concerns Office) State of Hawaii Department of Education's Youth Education Stability Project provides resources for homeless families. Families who find themselves grappling with homelessness have rights under the McKinney-Vento Act to ensure their children continue uninterrupted access to education and services. The Hawaii Council on Economic Education's (HCEE) mission is to increase the economic literacy of Hawaii's students, teachers and residents. HCEE implements its mission by promoting and improving the teaching of economic concepts in Hawaii's public and private schools through conducting teacher training programs and providing grade level K-12 appropriate teaching materials. Currently, it is not required that students in Hawaii complete a course in economics or personal finance prior to graduating from high school. This may not sound like it has negative consequences, however consider that students from states where a financial education course is required have the highest reported financial knowledge and are more likely to display positive financial behaviors. Miracle Flights provides free airline tickets to families in need of specialized, distant medical care and/or second opinions. Flight support is provided to children and adult patients at no cost to the family, as many times as necessary. Flight programs include domestic and international travel to U.S. treatment facilities and to train/retrieve service dogs.

Provides community-based, child-focused and family-centered comprehensive behavioral health care. Serves children, adolescents and their families who may suffer from a variety of severely emotional, behavioral or social adjustment problems. Provides evaluation, treatment planning, direct treatment and case management. Provides consultation to Department of Education personnel and private agencies.

Assesses the levels of services needed by older persons in Hawaii County and develops programs that address these needs. Awards contracts to service providers in the community who have shown the ability and willingness to deliver quality programs efficiently. Provides technical assistance and monitors and evaluates their performance. Coordinates the administration of services with other agencies. Coordinates training programs for those who provide services to older persons. Assures older persons in Hawaii County of convenient access to information and referral services and disability parking permits.

(KHS) The Community Care Center offers preventative care and treatment of conditions that are non-life threatening. Low-cost medical exams to pet-owners offered via a PetSmart Charities grant to owners on a walk-in basis.

(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households.
