Serves as the Area Agency on Aging and focal point for aging programs for the City and County of Honolulu designated under the Older Americans Act of 1965: 1) Plans, coordinates, advocates for and develops community based programs and services to meet the growing needs of older adults and their family caregivers 2) Contracts with agencies to provide supportive and long term care services that help elders remain at home 3) administers Senior Information and Assistance Program. Elderly Affairs Division is primarily an admnistrative agency which plans, develops, coordinates, and funds aging and caregiver programs. It also provides direct information and referral services to the public through its Senior Information and Assistance Unit.

Assists with solutions related to long term care in institutions. Schedules home visits to assess client needs and capacity. Provides information and referrals to client and follows-up on referrals. Assess and authorize for Kupuna Care services.

Assesses the levels of services needed by older persons in Hawaii County and develops programs that address these needs. Awards contracts to service providers in the community who have shown the ability and willingness to deliver quality programs efficiently. Provides technical assistance and monitors and evaluates their performance. Coordinates the administration of services with other agencies. Coordinates training programs for those who provide services to older persons. Assures older persons in Hawaii County of convenient access to information and referral services and disability parking permits.
