(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. The Golden West Chapter’s evidence based wraparound model of care combines coordinated, customized medical care and community and home-based services and support. The Chapter’s proven Excellence in ALS Care Initiative encompasses all key elements of our Care Services program which are focused on ensuring proactive, expert multidisciplinary care. In addition to providing direct services, we simultaneously engage the ALS community in activities that accelerate the search for effective treatments and cures. The Chapter’s Care Services program is an evidence based “wraparound model of care” that combines fully coordinated and individualized medical care with community and home-based services and support. This model is clinically proven to help people live longer and better with ALS, as it addresses the medical, social, emotional, and financial challenges they face. The Chapter’s approach in the state of Hawaii is unduplicated and tailored for each client and their loved ones. For example, Care Managers help clients and their loved ones access information and resources in their communities, connect with clinicians who specialize in ALS, obtain durable medical equipment and augmentative communication devices available through the Chapter’s Equipment Loan Program, understand and navigate insurance benefits, provide guidance around home modification, help find professional caregivers, and connect with others living with ALS. And if people with ALS and their loved ones have concerns about anything else related to this disease, our Care Managers are there to help.

State of Hawaii Department of Education provides free or reduced prices for meals to school children unable to pay because of financial need. Others pay for daily lunches. Effective for the school year 2025-2026, students who qualify for reduced-price meals will receive one breakfast and one lunch daily at no charge, in accordance with Act 139, Session Laws of Hawaii 2025. While these students will still be categorized as reduced-price eligible under federal guidelines, their meals will be scanned as “Reduced – No Charge.” If a student would like to purchase a second meal or a la carte items such as milk, funds will need to be deposited into their account.
