Ala Kuola provides assistance to persons affected by domestic violence in obtaining temporary restraining orders (TRO's) against the perpetrator. The TRO acts as a legal "shield" to protect the victim from further abuse. Ala Kuola services include:
-Screening requests to ensure the petition for the TRO is within the purview of the Family Court.
-Providing intake services on a one-to-one basis to ensure the safety and confidentiality of the petitioner.
-Providing technical assistance to the petitioner to ensure relevant information is included in all TRO documents.
-On hearing dates, Ala Kuola staff will act as an impartial court assistant between parties to expedite the hearing process.
-The Ala Kuola court assistant will also draft various court orders, and the service of the orders on the involved parties.
-Transmittal of all court orders to the Honolulu Police Department's Records Division for filing.

Early Childhood Education Scholarships

Scholarships are given as a reimbursement for the tuition of college-level courses in early childhood education, for Professional and Career Education for Early Childhood (PACE) classes taken if converted to college credits, or for direct assessment fees in obtaining a Child Development Association (CDA) certificate. Scholarships are available for anyone who successfully completes the above (Fiscal year basis & based on availability of funds). Day at the Beach typically takes place at White Plains Beach on the first Saturday of each month. There are occasional special program days (i.e. flat water days on the Windward side, or surf day at Queens Beach in town). All events are posted on our website, https://www.accessurf.org.

The Kona Historical Society practices the traditional art of baking Portuguese bread in a large wood-fired stone oven, or forno, located in the Kalukalu Pasture below the Society’s headquarters, H.N. Greenwell Store Museum and Native Forest Exhibit.
The communal oven can hold more than 30 loaves of bread. Cash and credit card accepted for bread purchase.
