Provides tutors for English-speaking adults in basic reading and writing. Trains volunteers to teach those adults. Tutor and student meet twice per week in a public location of their choice.

(Domestic Violence Services for Families) When child abuse occurs in the home, violent behavior towards spouses and others is also often present. After a family is required to enter the child welfare system and is discovered to be experiencing other forms of domestic violence a care plan is developed for each family member. Services are then provided for both survivors (victims) and batterers (perpetrators) of violent behavior. Survivors create a safety plan and are offered various supportive services. Batterers are assessed and provided opportunities to learn alternative attitudes and behaviors. This program works with families involved in the child welfare system who are also experiencing domestic violence. Staff work with each family to assess for domestic violence and/or risk factors related to domestic violence. A care plan is developed for each family member. The services that are available for each family include: Domestic Violence Survivor Support and Pattern Changing Groups for Victims, Individual Counseling and Support for each family member, Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focusing on children, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Children’s Support Groups, and/or Adolescent Support Groups.

Provides youth development activities, educational assistance, career guidance, athletics/sports, arts & culture, healthy lifestyles, leadership development, and media and technology.

(Meal Delivery - Hawaii Meals on Wheels) Medical meal (diabetic, renal, chopped, pureed, etc.) delivery service to homebound kupuna. Meals are frozen or hot, as needed. Frozen meals delivered once a week to your home and is a week's worth of meals. Hot meals are daily during weekdays, including all holidays. Both hot and frozen programs offer medical meals. Helps frail elderly and disabled individuals preserve their independence at home by providing nutritious meals and regular personal contact. Clients will have to have limited mobility; not be able to meet certain criteria of daily living i.e. difficulty dressing themselves, unable to cook or shop on their own. For private pay and sponsored services, A Hawaii Meals on Wheels staff will check in with their physician on their health status.

The City and County of Honolulu provides 10 public refuse drop-off locations: 6 convenience centers, 3 transfer stations and 1 landfill, around the island for residents to dispose of their household rubbish. Residents may use any of these locations free of charge. Maintains sites for disposal of ordinary household refuse. Convenience centers are reserved for residential waste material only, commercial or business refuse (from tree trimmers, roofers, plumbers, small stores, farmers, etc.) is strictly prohibited. Provides information on disposal of other wastes such as dead animals (Animal carcasses and waste products should be taken to City landfill), demolition, construction debris, asbestos or hazardous materials.

Handles complaints for RICO concerning regulated vocations and professions. Complaints about unfair/deceptive business practices are also handled for the Office of Consumer Protection. Acts as referral agency for consumers with questions and complaints. Administers the State Certified Arbitration Program that settles lemon law disputes. The Hawaii “Lemon Law” helps consumers who buy or lease new motor vehicles and have repeated problems in getting their vehicles repaired under the manufacturer’s warranty. Provides basic information regarding business entities, professional and vocational license status, and complaints history on licensed professionals and merchants/businesses. Regulates the manufacture, importation, sale and consumption of intoxicating liquors. Oversees liquor license applications. Hears and determines all complaints regarding violations of the liquor control laws of the state, or complaints regarding violations of rules and regulations established by the Liquor Commission. Imposes fines or punishment as may be provided by law. Adopts rules and regulations which have the effect of laws in the county. Enforces the provisions of the liquor laws. Grants, renews or refuses applications for liquor licenses. After an establishment has a liquor license, Commission investigators make periodic checks at the establishment. Conducts investigations for pre-sentence reports and conditional release motions. Supervises adult felons and some misdemeanants who are placed on probation, supervises deferred acceptance of guilty pleas or conditional discharges. Supervises interstate felon or misdemeanant probationers. Operates a 24-hour child abuse and neglect hotline. Receives all reports of child abuse or neglect. Provides case consultation and assessment. Provides crisis intervention on behalf of children in need of immediate protection. Also provides case management, permanency services and foster care licensing.

Provides substance abuse prevention education and activities among the E Ola Pono curriculum.

Operates a thrift store selling low cost clothing, furniture, household goods, toys and more. Proceeds benefit vocational training and job placement programs for people with barriers to employment.

The Employment Readiness Program offers information and referral services as well as assistance in the areas of employment, and training. Services include hiring events, career counseling and goal setting, employment and education information, classes on resume writing (federal and private sector), interviewing, building a LinkedIn profile, and conducting a job search.

Offers multipurpose senior programs and congregate meals. Serves as a focal point for service delivery and presentations by other agencies.

(WWWBWS) Hawaii Agricultural Foundation provides teacher workshops in partnership with the Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) and are free for HIDOE members. Registration is required through Learnsoft (via the HIDOE dashboard). Unless otherwise noted, Learnsoft Learning Object ID and Instance details will be provided soon. Teacher trainings happen throughout the school year (once or twice a year). Dates for trainings are listed on our website and space is limited. Attending teachers receive the Where Would We Be Without Seeds curriculum along with classroom supplies. Those who implement the program with students are also eligible for a HAF-sponsored field trip to a local agricultural site. Where Would We Be Without Seeds is a standards-based curriculum that introduces elementary students to the fundamentals of agriculture through interactive lessons. Students explore how seeds grow into the foods we eat, why farmers are vital to our communities, and how agriculture sustains Hawaii’s future. By making the connection between the classroom and the land, the program inspires curiosity and respect for farming at an early age.
