At Aloha United Way (AUW) we believe in a future where our keiki are secure, families are financially stable, and communities thrive. We advocate for a healthier, more educated, and financially stable Hawaii. The 2024 AUW Advocacy and Public Policy Agenda can be organized in the following areas: Support for the economic stability of ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households, support for community members experiencing disaster or crisis with the Safety Net, and support for our local nonprofit organizations.

(Chaplains Offices - Army) Provides religious services and sacraments, including worship, marriage, baptism and retreats; religious education and pastoral care, i.e., visitation, hospital confinement, counseling and more.

(Kupu Culinary Social Enterprise, Kupu Grinds, Kupu Culinary, Hookupu Center Catering) The Kupu Culinary Program provides hands-on experience for participants to interact with the food and beverage industry through catering services, event handling, and operating the Kupu Food Truck. Whether supporting large-scale events at the Hookupu Center or preparing daily meals for the Kupu Community Program, Kupu provides participants with industry-aligned training that promotes youth empowerment, job readiness, and workforce development within Hawaii’s growing green economy. The Kupu Culinary Program has responded to disasters in the form of providing meals to those in need. In addition to technical culinary training, participants strengthen essential soft skills such as communication, time management, and teamwork, equipping them to transition successfully into long-term employment or further educational opportunities in the culinary or service industries.

Provides employment and training services for adults and youths including job training, classroom training, career counseling, placement, and follow-up.

Serves current and former foster youth in Hawai‘i who are transitioning out of the foster care system, into adulthood. The program provides a group process for youth to celebrate their emancipation from foster care and to assist them in planning for their independence. Youth Circles build upon the philosophy and skills enriched through years of engaging families in ‘Ohana Conferences. Culturally sensitive, youth centered, and strengths based, Youth Circles bring together family and community support to increase social capital and develop a network of support from individualized, outcome-driven Transition Plans for the future. Anti-Bullying Lunchtime Program provides schools with a positive activity for students to curb fighting and eliminate negative activities among students during lunch period. Low COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) course activities are utilized and students participate in sports theme activities. The low cope course activity is used for communication, cooperation, decision making, leadership and teamwork. This program is at the 4 elementary schools 3rd thru 5th grade level. The students participate 4 times a month for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

(Tutu Bert's House) The Tutu Bert Medical Respite Homes serve as places for rest and recovery. Those who need medical attention arrive at our respite homes and stay until they are fully recovered from their recent medical procedure, surgery, or other treatments. Friendly staff and medical personnel are available around the clock. Meals and other supplies necessary for their recovery journey are provided to clients. Our locations are tucked away in Makiki and Kalihi.

(Hoa 'Aina O Makaha) Hoa Aina O Makaha provides programs based on Hawaiian cultural values and traditions. The focus is on strengthening family sustainability through activities that encourages family participation. Hoa Aina O Makaha is a resource to the schools by providing interactive hands-on activities that broadens understanding of subject matter and enhances classroom lesson plans; activities include gardening projects and animal care. Small scale agricultural farming produces herbs and other produce.

Educates service members veterans and their families to cope with mental health and addiction issues. Administered by veterans who themselves have been consumers of VA mental-health services. Vet 2 Vet provides a 6 week, peer-facilitator training program. Hawaii Vet 2 Vet Inc assists service members veterans and their families to get the services that they are entitled to from the Veterans Health and Benefits Administration (aka VHA and VBA).

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church provides a food pantry for those in need. Dates are subject to change please call for information. For holidays the pantry is usually on Thursday the week before the holiday.

The purpose of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer at Hawaii State Hospital is to help the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital staff in its efforts to reduce spread of COVID-19 at the Hospital and in the community we serve. The volunteer will also help with efforts to inform staff, patients, family members of patients, and others in the Hospital's service community on how they can help reduce risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19. Volunteers will help by using, modeling, informing and educating staff and others at the Hospital in safe physical distancing ("social distancing" six feet or more), using electronic communications and internet-based group communications apps to hold meetings, practicing hand hygiene, and special infection control measures to prevent transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Volunteer roles may include, as needed:

• Assist Hospital Administration sort, convey and communicate incoming CDC, DOH and other COVID-19 information
• Assist with written communication

Mana`olana, Komohana, Lawehana and Kome Transitional housing sites provides safe and decent shelters with case management and assistance towards permanent housing by addressing obstacles which prevent homeless persons from obtaining and retaining permanent housing through a coordinated effort of health, housing, financial and social services.

(EOEL) Our mission is to coordinate efforts to help ensure a solid foundation for Hawaii's young children, prenatal to age 5, by working with partners, families and communities, and aligning policies and programs in relation to health, safety, and school readiness and success. We work with Department of Health (DOH), Department of Human Services (DHS), Department of Education (DOE), Charter Schools, Community Providers, County Coordinators, County Coordinators, Early Head Start / Head Start and Family Child Interaction Learning Programs.

Assisting in helping those interested in running a child care business to becoming licensed by the State of Hawaii. Providing guidance regarding setting up a child care business. Providing free training on child development, nutrition, health and safety issues. Providing information about resources available to providers, such as the USDA Child Care Food Program that assists in paying for meals served in daycare. Referring parents who are looking for child care to licensed child care providers. Maintaining connections with child care providers, professional child care associations, and other child care professionals as well as helping others build those relationships in the community. (Wendys Wonderful Kids - Adoption Services) Wendy’s Wonderful Kids offers proactive, child-focused recruitment of adoptive families for children who have been placed in long-term foster care. Sponsored by the Dave Thomas Foundation, this unique program provides intensive social work services to find the best adoptive home for a child by exploring all facets of the child’s family, school, and friendship circles, as well as recruiting families from the broader community. Goals: • Increase the number of foster children placed with loving, adoptive or guardianship families in Hawaii • Develop supportive and warm relationships with children waiting to be adopted/legal guardianship • Provide information and resources to prospective and adoptive/guardianship parents • Increase community awareness of foster care adoption • Streamline the adoption process • Improve the quality of life for children in the permanent care of the Hawaii • State Department of Human Services by providing a “forever” family in Hawaii

Rainbow School Kaneohe has been in operation since 1991. Our school is located on the grounds of Parker United Methodist Church. Rainbow School Kaneohe is able to care for 120 children ranging in age from 2 years to 5 years old. Our program is licensed by the State of Hawaii and also has the distinction of being accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). All staff meet State licensing requirements. We accept DHS – Child Care Connection, Open Door, First-to-Work, Kamehameha Schools’ Keiki Pauahi Scholars Program, and Federal subsidies. All tuition payments are done through the FACTS Tuition Management program. Your child’s Form 14, current TB clearance and DHS 908 Form are required upon acceptance into the school. Parents are also responsible for a non-refundable registration fee of $175 upon acceptance. If there are no availabilities, your child’s application will be placed on the center’s waitlist. (VLA) The VLA project focuses on disabled and elderly veterans and family members who are residents of the state of Hawaii and who want assistance with filing benefits claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Also offers referrals to volunteer attorneys through VLSH's pro bono program for legal advice and direct services for: Family Law, Tenant Rights, Collections and Bankruptcy, Estate Planning/Probate, Re-Employment and Community Service Program (Oahu only).

Funds projects involving public health education, research and legislation for which other funds are not available. Priority goes to projects which will bring visible results. Funds usually used as seed money.

Operates information and referral line for parents of children with special needs. Facilitates parent-to-parent communication. Provides lending library and quarterly newsletter.
