- Prior experience or education in healthcare is required for this position, including current or former patient-care employment or volunteer service in a healthcare facility. College- or graduate-level students in nursing, medicine, or other healthcare fields, including pre-med college students, and former volunteers of HSH or other hospitals and healthcare facilities are welcome to apply. - Written Application, Interview, References, and Criminal History Background and Court Record Checks - If duties require serving on-site at Hawaii State Hospital: TB Clearance within the past 12 months - If duties require serving on-site at Hawaii State Hospital: health screening each day you volunteer - Compassion and appreciation for individuals receiving care for serious mental illness, and desire to help reduce spread of COVID-19 among vulnerable populations

The purpose of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer at Hawaii State Hospital is to help the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital staff in its efforts to reduce spread of COVID-19 at the Hospital and in the community we serve. The volunteer will also help with efforts to inform staff, patients, family members of patients, and others in the Hospital's service community on how they can help reduce risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19. Volunteers will help by using, modeling, informing and educating staff and others at the Hospital in safe physical distancing ("social distancing" six feet or more), using electronic communications and internet-based group communications apps to hold meetings, practicing hand hygiene, and special infection control measures to prevent transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Volunteer roles may include, as needed: - Assist Hospital Administration sort, convey and communicate incoming CDC, DOH and other COVID-19 information - Assist with written communication
