(Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. Education and support for moms who breastfeed: WIC has specially trained staff to answer your breastfeeding questions. Ask for more information about our breast pump loan program. For youth who have run away or experienced a crisis. The program is geared to help youth work out their problems and whenever possible keep the family unit intact. Family counseling is an important part of their stay. Parental consent is necessary unless the youth is referred by Child Protective Services. The Emergency Shelter Services Program is geared to help youth work out their problems while keeping the family unit intact with the help of regular family counseling. The length of stay typically ranges from 1 to 30 days and are offered in two settings, Group Shelters and Kamala Homes. There is one shelter for boys and one shelter for girls.

Welcomes and accepts volunteers (including high school students, college students, working adults and senior retirees). Volunteers assist Health System employees with acute care, long-term care and geriatric care. Duties range from clerical support to companionship activities within nursing home residents or patient assistance at the medical center. Volunteers also participate in hospital tours for visitors. Volunteers are accepted year round. Upon acceptance into the program, volunteers attend a general orientation given by the supervisor of their assigned department. Most volunteers work one to two times a week and a minimum of three hours a shift. Weekends are available.

(Domestic Violence Advocacy) Families who are enrolled in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Temporary Assistance to Other Needy Families (more commonly known as “welfare”), are required to be engaged in activities that will ultimately lead them to self-sufficiency. Program recipients for whom issues of safety and domestic violence are interfering with their progress can call upon Domestic Violence Advocacy to help them find support to change their situations. Services include: assessment, service planning, counseling services, case management and linkage and referral. Provides a range of supportive services to help individuals involved in domestic abuse situations to become self sufficient. Provides transportation assistance for patients with cancer. Road to Recovery program - volunteers drive patients to doctor appointments and medical treatments. Bus Passes and Handi-Van Coupons - availability is limited to those in active treatment. Taxicab - limited trips for those that are unable to access volunteers, bus or handi-van. Air Fare interisland and mainland - for patients not covered by other insurance coverage. Reduced rate lodging - at hotels in Hawaii for patients who must travel for treatment. Hope lodge - free overnight housing for patients traveling to the mainland for treatment.

UCPA's Early Intervention Services is sponsored by the State of Hawaii's Department of Health - Early Intervention Section. The program provides services to children between the ages of birth to three years of age with developmental delays. Services are provided in each child's natural environment (e.g., home) with the goal of educating, enhancing and coaching parents and caregivers to support development within the context of the child's daily routines and activities.

The Great Aloha Run is an 8.12-mile foot race beginning at Aloha Tower and finishes in the Aloha Stadium. The race financially assists scholarship programs and special projects of selected charitable organizations which serve the community needs in the State of Hawaii.

Serves current and former foster youth in Hawai‘i who are transitioning out of the foster care system, into adulthood. The program provides a group process for youth to celebrate their emancipation from foster care and to assist them in planning for their independence. Assesses the levels of services needed by older persons in Hawaii County and develops programs that address these needs. Awards contracts to service providers in the community who have shown the ability and willingness to deliver quality programs efficiently. Provides technical assistance and monitors and evaluates their performance. Coordinates the administration of services with other agencies. Coordinates training programs for those who provide services to older persons. Assures older persons in Hawaii County of convenient access to information and referral services and disability parking permits.

Provides residential refuse collection service. Operates and maintains solid waste disposal facilities. Plans, designs, constructs, inspects and monitors all county solid waste projects. Establishes recycling programs to minimize landfills.

This school is an alternative learning center for the DOE Central District's most severely "alienated" youth, providing training in basic skills areas. GED preparation is also available in the evenings to both youth and adults.

State of Hawaii Department of Education provides free or reduced prices for meals to school children unable to pay because of financial need. Others pay for daily lunches. Effective for the school year 2025-2026, students who qualify for reduced-price meals will receive one breakfast and one lunch daily at no charge, in accordance with Act 139, Session Laws of Hawaii 2025. While these students will still be categorized as reduced-price eligible under federal guidelines, their meals will be scanned as “Reduced – No Charge.” If a student would like to purchase a second meal or a la carte items such as milk, funds will need to be deposited into their account. Online payment is available at https://ezschoolpay.com. Prices for student second meals and adult meals at breakfast and lunch, have increased to $3.50 for breakfast and $7.50 for lunch. For students in a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, the CEP program allows a school district, a group of schools or a single school to serve free meals to all students even if they do not qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. Helping Hands Hawaii's Community Clearinghouse operates a warehouse providing free essential items to persons and families with low-income, people experiencing houselessness, and disaster survivors. Available items may include furniture, basic household goods, hygiene items, food, and clothing.
