Emergency Crisis Intervention (ECI) assists households in crisis (utility termination is current or impending) by assisting with a one-time credit up to $650.00 to help restore or prevent termination of electric or gas services through Hawaiian Electric or Hawaii Gas Company. Applications are accepted on a month-by-month basis, but approvals are limited and space fills quickly. Payments are made directly to your utility company. The purpose of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer at Hawaii State Hospital is to help the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital staff in its efforts to reduce spread of COVID-19 at the Hospital and in the community we serve. The volunteer will also help with efforts to inform staff, patients, family members of patients, and others in the Hospital's service community on how they can help reduce risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19. Volunteers will help by using, modeling, informing and educating staff and others at the Hospital in safe physical distancing ("social distancing" six feet or more), using electronic communications and internet-based group communications apps to hold meetings, practicing hand hygiene, and special infection control measures to prevent transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Volunteer roles may include, as needed:

Program for families of prenatal moms, infants and toddlers called “Parents As Teachers,” or PAT - a home-based program for families that begins before your keiki is born until a keiki turns three. Through home visits, we support parents with practical, research-based strategies and activities to support the importance of enhancing school readiness during these critical and formative years of a keiki’s life. These strategies enhance parent child interactions, strengthen ohana relationships and support parents in being their keiki’s first and most influential teacher. Literacy is a major focus of PAT, books are used in every visit. The “Parents as Teachers” Foundational Curriculum is provided through supportive certified PAT parent educator’s home visits and screenings in assisting parents in understanding the latest neuroscience research and how it relates to their keiki.
