(SHEG) A one time, not ongoing financial assistance for households who are homeless or at-risk for homelessness. Single, couples and families. Provides assistance with rent deposit, first month rent, past due rent, utilities when included with rent or if utility assistance prevents homelessness. Utility assistance for renters only. Utilities assistance to prevent the household from losing their housing or prevent homelessness.

Prevents and protects persons and property against crime. Enforces county ordinances and state laws. Investigates missing persons, juvenile offenses and criminal activity. Coordinates traffic safety. Registers and issues firearm permits. Administers and promotes community education and prevention programs such as Crimestoppers, DARE, Neighborhood Watch.

Inspects and certifies imported and exported horticultural materials, non-domestic animals. Issues permit for import and export of these subjects.

(Food Pantry) Dynamic Compassion in Action distributes food boxes to persons in need and persons with low-income. Clothing and household goods are distributed at the same site and during same food pantry hours. Volunteers are accepted, but please call first. We accept donations of clean and gently used small household items and clothing. The food distribution is normally a drive through. For persons who walk in please bring a bag, box or wagon. This is an Ohana Produce Plus Distribution and Senior Food Box Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), a one a month, federal program helping low-income kupuna.

Operates an adult day health program which provides therapeutic services and treatments including nursing care, recreational therapy and social services. Designed for persons at risk for long term care placement. Accepts volunteers 16 years old or older, to assist in transporting residents, general office duties, music leaders, craft assistants, active games, religious services, pet therapy, ethnic groups, sewing craft projects, etc.

Issues camping and use permits for state parks system. Plans, acquires, develops and maintains state park lands. Maui island state parks include: Halekii-Piihana Heiau State Monument, Iao Valley State Monument, Kaumahina State Wayside, Puaa Kaa State Wayside, Makena State Park, and Wailua Valley State Wayside. Tent and cabin camping at Polipoli Springs State Recreation Area and Waianapanapa State Park. Molokai state parks include: Palaau State Park. No state parks located on Lanai.

Services include: Development of an Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP); Parent coaching and family support; Developmental evaluations; Resources, information, and referral services; Assistance to families in transition planning for their child’s transition into the Department of Education special education, Head Start or preschool. Treatment Focus Areas: Cognitive; Language and Communication; Physical; Development; Social and Emotional; Adaptive/Self Care. Program focuses on building a support team for the family and assisting them in meeting challenges via parent coaching and building a foundation of tools and strategies that parents need to support their child’s growth and participation in their community.

(CCSS) Focuses on helping parents learn better parenting skills. Also teaches children skill building. Provides counseling to address selected issues. Parenting groups also available for parents who want to increase their parenting skills. Current classes held in Hilo, Kurtistown and Pahoa.

Administers programs to control agricultural pests such as insects, mites, snails, slugs and weeds through the use of natural enemies. Detects and identifies insect pests to agriculture, such as fruit flies, caterpillars, leaf miners, beetles and other plant insect pests.

Serves as the Area Agency on Aging and focal point for aging programs for the City and County of Honolulu designated under the Older Americans Act of 1965: 1) Plans, coordinates, advocates for and develops community based programs and services to meet the growing needs of older adults and their family caregivers 2) Contracts with agencies to provide supportive and long term care services that help elders remain at home 3) administers Senior Information and Assistance Program. (Hawaii Relief Program) Maui Economic Opportunity has been contracted to administer the Hawaii Relief Program. Eligible applicants may receive up to four months of financial assistance, including: -Up to 4 months of rent or mortgage (up to $6,000 per month) -One time security deposit (actual housing deposit amount up to the maximum of $6,000) -Up to 4 months of utility assistance ($2,000 per month per utility source) -One time Utility deposit (up to $3,000 per utility source). Utility payments may include electricity, gas, or water expense, or a combination of these utility sources. Water expense may include sewer service fees. We provide in-home care services which include companionship, light housekeeping, cooking, supervision, Activities of Daily Living; including bathing, toileting, transfer assistance, dressing, feeding, and grooming, and various other duties as determined by the assessment. Kokua Care Foundation Charitable Care Services (KCFCCS) provides these care services at no charge to qualified individuals, and at-cost services for individuals who are unable to qualify for the program, but have shown the need for service.
