Domestic Violence Services for Families

(DV Services for Families, DVSF) The Survivor and Children Support Services, (SCSS), focuses on supporting personal healing with families involved in both child welfare and domestic violence. SCSS provides an array of services to help families understand the difference between unhealthy and healthy family dynamics, strengthen parenting skills to include, learning how to better empathize with children's emotions, and become empowered by the use of community referrals. The SCSS Program's goal is to ensure and promote survivor safety and independence, and to strengthen child resilience.

Hawaii Meals on Wheels – Home Delivered Meals

(Meal Delivery - Hawaii Meals on Wheels) Medical meal (diabetic, renal, chopped, pureed, etc.) delivery service to homebound kupuna. Meals are frozen or hot, as needed. Frozen meals delivered once a week to your home and is a week's worth of meals. Hot meals are daily during weekdays, including all holidays. Both hot and frozen programs offer medical meals. Helps frail elderly and disabled individuals preserve their independence at home by providing nutritious meals and regular personal contact. Clients will have to have limited mobility; not be able to meet certain criteria of daily living i.e. difficulty dressing themselves, unable to cook or shop on their own. For private pay and sponsored services, A Hawaii Meals on Wheels staff will check in with their physician on their health status.

Enhancements Program

Supports children who have been physically or sexually abused, or severely neglected. Funding is provided through foundation grants and private/business donations. The "Enhancements" include such needs as medical, dental, glasses, travel, sports fees, school graduation packages, classes in hula, ukulele, karate, as well as summer school or correspondence school courses, therapy and counseling, air fare so youth can participate in inter-island cultural and sports events, and orthodontia (braces). Also sponsors public education and community awareness activities and materials to help prevent child abuse in the community, as well as inform children and adults how to report or respond to a report of child abuse.

Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance

(McGruff Program, Take a bite out of Crime Program) Provides education, training, research, and coordination and monitoring of federal grants on the issues of crime prevention and system improvement to criminal justice agencies, the Legislature, and citizens to establish a safer and better informed community. Offers programs including the McGruff "Take a Bite Out of Crime" program, internet safety, and crime research and trend analysis. Coordinates and administers federal grants including the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant (criminal justice block grant for drugs and violent crime, available only to government agencies). Violence Against Women Act (grant for violence against women), and Victim of Crime Act (grant for victim assistance and compensation programs). Leads the Hawaii Sexual Assault Response and Training Program consisting of a multidisciplinary, multi-agency effort to assist sexual assault victims and hold offenders accountable.

North Hawaii Hospice

Provides support services for terminally ill patients and their families. Nurses, trained volunteers, psychologists and social workers provide physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual care. All services are provided in patient's home. Also provides bereavement and grief counseling.

Sounding Joy's Direct Services include music therapy consultation, assessment, treatment planning, evaluation, and individual/group sessions conducted by Board Certified Music Therapists (MT-BC's). Music therapy sessions can be offered either individually or in group, according to the client's needs. We have grants and scholarships available to assist with payment for music therapy services. Please call our office or email [email protected] for more information. For neighbor islands, please contact us directly to be connected with our Maui therapists. Our organization also offers various ranges of music therapy seminars and conferences, including continuing education credit opportunities. They are mostly targeted to specific populations/groups and topics, but sometimes to the general public. People may need to contact us before attending them.
