What's Here
Providing organization

Sounding Joy Music Therapy

Established in 2002, Sounding Joy Music Therapy, Inc., is the first and only non-profit music therapy organization in Hawai'i. Our mission is to provide music therapy to people of all ages and walks of life with diverse needs and abilities, and to advance public awareness of the benefits of music therapy. The objectives of our programs are: 1) to enhance the well-being of individuals and communities through direct, ongoing music therapy services; 2) to offer community outreach and education regarding the impact of music on human physiological, cognitive, emotional, and social/cultural functioning; 3) to collaborate with agencies and facilities serving our client populations, such as schools, community centers, day treatment programs, rehabilitation facilities, transitional housing shelters, long-term elder care residences, hospitals, and hospices; 4) to offer university-affiliated internships for music therapy students, continuing professional education for music therapists, and volunteer service opportunities for the community at large; and 5) to conduct ongoing research to validate therapeutic uses of music to support health, well-being, and quality of life in various populations and settings. We strive to promote the accessibility of music therapy to all people of Hawai'i, especially those in greatest need. We believe that music is a powerful cultural resource that can promote human self-actualization and self-empowerment, enrich and sustain relationships, and strengthen communities.
