(Ka Pa'alana, Ka Paalana Traveling Preschool and Homeless Family Education Program, Partners in Development Ka Paalana, Partners in Development K Paalana Traveling Preschool, PIDF Ka Paalana Traveling Preschool) The Ka Pa‘alana Traveling Preschool and Homeless Family Education Program serves houseless families on the Leeward coast of O‘ahu as well as Kaka‘ako, and Hilo on Hawai‘i Island. Through collaborative partnerships with Leeward coast outreach agencies, Ka Pa‘alana assists families by delivering or providing access to essential services, such as a parent-child participatory preschool, basic needs items and more. Ka Pa‘alana also serves as an initial contact agency for families who are ready to transition to local shelters or temporary housing facilities. There are three components to the Ka Pa‘alana Traveling Preschool and Homeless Family Education Program: Malama Mobile, Traveling Preschool, and Family Education services.

(Homeless Careavan Program) Provides outreach for homeless individuals. Currently uses van, Care-A-Van outreach specialist to travel to beaches/parks and other areas on Kauai where homeless people live or congregate. If you wish to assist a person who is homeless, who might be setting up "residence" in a public area or needing a health and safety intervention, the following actions should be taken: -Note the exact location and time when the person who is homeless is known to frequent the area. -Note any identifying information for the person who is homeless, e.g., physical description and number in the group. -Provide the above information to Kauai Economic Opportunity via email at [email protected] or call (808) 245.4077, x228. Email is the preferred means of communication. Also provide the name and email/phone number of the person providing the information for follow up if the person who is homeless cannot be found.

Outreach and case management for the homeless. Provides flexible intake. Operates four 4WD vehicles which locate and identify homeless and at-risk population. Provides direct emergency client assistance such as first aid and transportation for endangered clients in isolated areas and to medical appointments as part of ongoing case coordination. Provides a client-centered program of health assessments and education, counseling, referrals to appropriate available services and follow-up.

A Cup of Cold Water, A Community Care Van

A Cup of Cold Water is an outreach care van ministry of the Episcopal Churches on Maui and Community Friends delivering basic needs of water, nutrition, clothing and comfort to the neediest of Maui's people. Weekly runs are made to the homeless in Central, West and South Maui on days and times when they are not serviced by others. A Cup of Cold Water Care is an all volunteer outreach and all donations go directly to meeting the basic needs (plus a lot of comfort) of the homeless clients served. A Cup of Cold Water does not help with housing.

Youth Outreach Program

(YO) Since 1989, Youth Outreach (YO!) has provided medical and social services to homeless youth. Beyond basic services, YO! offers encouragement and the opportunity to create positive change, which most homeless youth don't find anywhere else. Services are provided free of charge. Community support is vital to help sustain the program. GED training available, as well as employment counseling. Services are provided at the YO! drop-in center and by outreach teams, who travel in Waikiki offering assistance and information to potential YO! clients. YO! is jointly operated by Waikiki Health and Hale Kipa, Inc.
