Handles complaints for RICO concerning regulated vocations and professions. Complaints about unfair/deceptive business practices are also handled for the Office of Consumer Protection. Acts as referral agency for consumers with questions and complaints. Administers the State Certified Arbitration Program that settles lemon law disputes. The Hawaii “Lemon Law” helps consumers who buy or lease new motor vehicles and have repeated problems in getting their vehicles repaired under the manufacturer’s warranty. Provides basic information regarding business entities, professional and vocational license status, and complaints history on licensed professionals and merchants/businesses. Will investigate complaints in the following areas: advertising, art galleries, car rentals, charitable solicitations, collection practices, credit sales, door-to-door sales, health clubs, interest and usury, investment schemes, Made-in-Hawaii goods, refunds and exchanges, unaccredited degree granting institutions, unfair or deceptive trade practices, unsolicited goods, or undisclosed charges.
