(Help Understanding and Group Support Respite Program) HUGS schedules respite services for enrolled HUGS member families who meet medical eligibility requirements. Volunteers are needed.

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose, open pavilion building and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration.

ISG offers an array of support services and product sales (assistive technology) for people who are blind or experience low vision, are deaf or are hard of hearing, or have a speech disability. ISG is a local distributor for many key mainland manufacturers of high and low technology such as desktop and portable video magnifiers, screen reading computer programs, and many other low vision aids. ISG sells and services assistive listening and alerting devices such as FM listening systems and telephone/doorbell alerting systems. ISG conducts assessment with people with disabilities to evaluate their need for assistive technology that can aid in one's productivity for independent living or employment. ISG coordinates services from a fully accessible, model home in Honolulu where an array of technology is on display for people to "try before you buy". ISG hosts the Assistive Technology User Group meetings.

(Hawaii Homeownership Center - Honolulu Office) The Hawaii HomeOwnership Center's (HHOC) lifetime membership prepares buyers for the home purchase through classes and individual coaching. Classes address the general concepts about preparing for homeownership and the buying process; individual coaching provides support to identify buyer resources and create an action plan to become mortgage ready. Support after our members become homeowners is available through workshops and confidential meetings.

Coordinates self-help housing projects consisting of 6 - 12 families in a building group. An experienced builder-foreman-teacher shows the group how to build. Saves about 25%-30% of the house cost. When 6 - 12 families build as a group, the houses are finished at the same time. Each family puts in the same number of hours of labor and builds the same house depending on family size. Uses "mass-construction" techniques. Takes 6 - 12 months to build the houses.

The Hawaii Fire Department is primarily responsible for fire protection and suppression, pre-hospital emergency medical services, land and sea search and rescue, hazardous materials response, ocean safety, and fire prevention and public education for the County of Hawaii. The Fire Prevention bureau provides building plans review, public education. (Four-H Youth Program) Provides an informal youth program, designed to assist youth in acquiring knowledge life skills, and becoming self-directed, productive and contributing members of society. Through active, experiential learning, youth learn about science, communication, personal management, leadership, citizenship, health, safety, and nutrition. Members participate in citizenship projects, literacy program using television; "GHOSTWRITERS"; "KAMP" (Kindergartners Are Most Precious) designed to promote school readiness, success and parent-child interaction; and a "Youth At Risk" educational theatre project.

(EFNEP) Assists families with limited income to plan low-cost, simple, healthy meals. Teaches families to shop wisely, stretch their dollars and resources, and keep foods safe. Meets with homemakers in small groups or individually in the family's home or at community sites.
