(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. (Ready To Learn Program, RTL, R2L Program, Ready 2 Learn Program) Ready to Learn (RTL) is a statewide initiative that provides students in need from kindergarten through high school with a backpack filled with new pencils, pens, notebooks and other school supplies with an intended outcome of school readiness. Assistance is provided year round, but the primary period is the summer before each new school year. Application period for school supplies is from March-May, and the distribution of school supplies is in July. The Private Sector Hawaii serves the North Shore of Oahu only: Mokuleia, Waialua, Haleiwa, Sunset Beach, Kahuku. Food boxes are delivered after an individual calls and requests a box. A recipient must call every time they need a food box. Our goal is to deliver the box within a week of a call, though we have been behind due to increased requests. Recipients can expect to receive one food box a month. This is an all volunteer charity and we deliver food boxes as volunteers are available. If someone has an emergency need for food, we will get a box to them immediately. No on site distribution.
