(Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Parent Participation Preschool is a three-phased program for parents to assist in their child's transition from home to school. The children progress through the program based on their development and mastered skills, not age. -Pueo (Phase 1): Children are introduced to a more structured learning environment. It focuses on colors, shapes and letter recognition. The class meets twice a week for 2 hours. It requires parents' 100% participation. -Honu (Phase 2): Children entering Honu have some basic, fundamental preschool abilities and are inspired to work independently, explore academics, use their creativity, and learn the importance of a daily routine. The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. Keiki ages 11 years old - 17 years old will learn ocean safety from City lifeguards at no cost. Children will learn rescue boards, rescue tubes, and near-shore search and rescue techniques from some of the City and County of Honolulu lifeguards. Keiki will also get an introduction to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid. Classes are free and will be held during the fall break from school: October 9-13, 2023.
