Each year, Hawai‘i Opera Theatre produces an opera specifically designed to take “on tour” to schools all around the state. In addition to being a great experience with music and drama, this show can also be used to enhance curriculum. Themes are relevant to social studies, language arts, math and more. This production is recommended for grade level K-8 and family audiences but has also been successful with middle and high school audiences as well. Cost per performance is $325 with the recommended audience size of 200 students per performance. The production uses live music accompaniment. If your school does not have a piano, a synthesizer can be brought to the school. HOT provides a study guide that includes a synopsis of the show and classroom activities. Bring Opera to your school! (Domestic Violence Shelter, Domestic Abuse Shelter - Hilo) Domestic Abuse Shelters provide a safe haven for abused partners and their children. It is a time-out period for abused partners to learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, the cycle of abuse and how to develop a "safety plan". It is also a time for learning about and making choices; discovering that they are not at fault for the abuse; building self-esteem and learning self-empowerment. The Domestic Abuse Shelters help families and children escape from domestic violence and establish independent lives. The shelter offers up to 120 days of a safe haven, basic needs (food, clothing etc.), counseling and services for children. Program participants learn dynamics of domestic violence, develop safety plans, improve self-esteem and learn healthy parenting skills. Children develop safety plans and learn they’re not responsible for domestic violence. The shelters offer: -Domestic violence crisis hotline -Lodging and food -Crisis counseling -Individual counseling -Educational workshops -Support groups -Information, referral & advocacy -Children's program -Tutors for children not able to attend school -Assistance with obtaining a TRO, Housing and financial aid -Volunteer program The Domestic Abuse Shelters (DAS) provide victims of domestic violence and their families with a safe haven of temporary shelter, provision for basic needs (food, clothing etc.), counseling and services for children. (HCAP Administration) Honolulu Community Action Program, Inc. (HCAP) offers a variety of programs and services designed to help Oahu's low-income individuals and families to achieve self-reliance. Programs include Head Start, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), food assistance, employment services, after-school STEM, and individualized case management. HCAP also promotes community development and advocacy through resident advisory councils and private-public volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are encouraged to contact HCAP for opportunities to help children, youth and adults in need.

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: fall, spring, and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music and dance, seasonal activities and crafts, excursions and swimming. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration. Also accepts birds that are dropped off for West Nile testing.

(Easter Seals Hawaii Kauai Home and Community Based Services) Easterseals Hawaii provides individualized early intervention services to children under 3 with special needs and their families. Services include - Development of an Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) by professionals who work with parents to meet their child’s developmental goals. Parent coaching and family support from occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, special educators and social workers. Developmental evaluations. Resources, information, and referral services. Assistance to families in transition planning for their child’s transition into appropriate settings, such as the Department of Education special education, Head Start or preschool. Treatment Focus Areas are Cognitive, Language and Communication, Physical, Development, Social and Emotional, Adaptive/Self Care. Family plays a key role in a child’s life. Program focuses on building a support team for the family and assisting them in meeting challenges presented by their child with special needs. The partnership between parents and professionals provides an opportunity for parent coaching and building a foundation of tools and strategies that parents need to support their child’s growth and participation in their community.
