Operation Hero is an afterschool program that targets military children who have been identified by teachers, counselors, or parents as exhibiting low self-esteem, or who have difficulty adjusting, both academically and sociall t the school environment. Oftentimes, these difficulties can be attributed to frequent moves and family disruption due to deployments. The curriculum is designed to help children cope with the challenges of military life, provide tools to help them succeed in school, and assist them in developing a positive self-image while improving communication skills. This program promotes social responsibility through team-building activities and targets children.

(TRY, TRY Center, Community Teen Program - KPT - Middle and High School) Parents And Children Together's Community Tenacious Rooted Youth (TRY) Centers in Kuhio Park Terrace and Puuwai Momi public housing provides comprehensive development programs for youth who live in and around the housing complexes. After school programs promote the development of youth, families, and communities by providing educational activities and experiences including STEM projects, sports and recreation, community service, skill building, and support services. Programs support the growth and development of our youth by teaching leadership and life skills and encouraging positive experiences as alternatives to drugs and gangs. TRY Center activities are free and open to family residents of public housing complexes in the respective areas. Opens at 1:30 pm on Wednesdays during the school year. Extended hours offered during summer and school intersessions. Intake form is good for 1 year.

Waiau District Park Market is a low cost market where farmers sell fresh produce, baked goods, and fish directly to the public. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) voucher are accepted. (CSFP, Senior Food Box) The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a federally funded USDA program that helps eligible older adults access nutritious foods by providing a monthly Senior Food Box filled with a variety of shelf-stable USDA items designed to supplement their diets.

Sponsors annual Honolulu Marathon (26.2 mile race) which is classified as the 3rd largest international marathon in the United States. Comprised of seven professionals who donate their time to the world class international marathon. Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors a 9-month training clinic, with various running groups, that culminates in the marathon run.

The Hana Like Home Visitor Program works with families to provide supportive coaching to teach strategies that enhance the parent or caregiver’s skills to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for children ages birth to 3 years old. Home visitors also work with prenatal mothers to support a wide range of maternal-child health. Families are referred by the Early Identification (EID) unit of Catholic Charities Hawaii and can be self-referred. Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions.
