(TRY, TRY Center, Community Teen Program - Puuwai Momi) Parents And Children Together's Community's Tenacious Rooted Youth (TRY) Centers in Kuhio Park Terrace and Puuwai Momi public housing provides comprehensive development programs for youths who live in and around the housing complexes. After school programs promote the development of youth, families, and communities by providing educational activities and experiences including STEM projects, sports and recreation, community service, skill building, and support services. Programs support the growth and development of our youth by teaching leadership and life skills and encouraging positive experiences as alternatives to drugs and gangs. TRY Center activities are free and open to family residents of public housing complexes in the respective areas. Opens at 1:30pm on Wednesdays during the school year. Extended hours offered during summer and school intersessions. Intake form is good for 1 year.

The Red Cross provides disaster response to those affected by disasters in East Hawaii County and shares critical preparedness information to the community so that people can prepare before a disaster strikes. All disaster response and disaster training are provided at no charge. Training classes such as first aid, CPR and Lifeguarding are available for a fee. (CFS Gerontology Program - Ohana Care) Caregivers who provide the primary care to individuals who are disabled, frail, and/or isolated residents on Oahu, who are 60 years of age or older, on an as needed basis are eligible for case management, counseling, and training services. Training topics may include: ADL/ADL limitations, caregiver’s role, disease prevention and remediation, access to available resources, stages of disease and options/ referrals in legal or financial related matters, RCI-REACH, and Arthritis Foundation related training. Staff will also provide information and referral sources when needed. Designed to improve the quality of life for families, care receivers, and caregivers by offering a continuum of quality care that is flexible and individualized in order to prolong the care giving relationship. The program actively assists the care receiver and the caregiver in implementing an individualized, strengths based service plan on how to reduce stress and link with the appropriate community resources. The program also provides supportive counseling.
