(Adult Program, Adult Group Homes - Hale Kukunaokala) Hale Naau Pono provides group homes for persons with serious mental illness. Group homes provide shared, safe, homelike environments where adults are assited with developing and maintaining skills of independent living (managing personal finances, daily living skills, social skills, medication adherence, compliance with medical, behavioral and legal orders, and coordinating services with the various providers on the team to support client success). Program Participants are assigned to a single or shared room (limit 2 beds per room). Houses are between 4 and 7 bedrooms and 5 to 8 beds. Program fees include room, electricity, water, internet, phone and basic cable and shared supplies like toilet paper, laundry detergent, hand soap, cleaning supplies. Homes are fully furnished and participants are expected to purchase their own food, medications, personal hygiene. Participants will work with program staff to establish personal goals, attend structured rehabilitation, education or work programs during the weekdays and perform common household chores.

The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households.
