All other improvements and services shall be provided by the gardeners. Each Community Garden is run by a self-governing body following general rules and regulations set up by the City and County of Honolulu. MISSION: The urgent mission of The Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments, and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases. SERVICES: For a $25.00 annual membership fee, FFB offers information and referral services for affected individuals and their families as well as for doctors and eye care professionals. The Foundation also provides comprehensive information kits on retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, and usher syndrome. Our newsletter, InFocus, and our e-newsletter, InFocus online, present articles on coping, research updates, and Foundation news. InFocus is published 3 times per year; InFocus online is sent approximately 3 times per year. Our national conference is usually held every year.

Hawaii Agricultural Foundation provides teacher trainings. Teacher trainings for Veggie U are island specific trainings with 1-2 trainings per year. Veggie U is a hands-on science program that empowers students to become growers in their own classrooms. Using a classroom garden kit, students plant, care for, and harvest vegetables while learning about nutrition, sustainability, and healthy eating. The program deepens appreciation for local food, encourages healthier lifestyles, and connects youth to the importance of agriculture in everyday life. Quarterly virtual check-ins provide teachers with timely updates, opportunities to discuss topics of interest, and a space to collaborate and share classroom experiences with fellow educators.

Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities seeks to use the public humanities to nurture the joy of learning, and inspire community and civic engagement. We aim to bring the humanities to hard-to-reach and nontraditional audiences across the state.
