The Family Law Division performs all Family Court actions on behalf of the state including child and adult protective services, truancies, adolescent mental health cases, involuntary civil mental commitments hearings, minor and adult guardianship, adoptions, etc. Our specialized units (Family Support Unit) perform paternities and (Dead Beat Parents Unit) dead beat parents. The division also provides support to the Child Support Enforcement Agency.

(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. Temporary 24-hour care for older adults of all ethnicities to offer care providers an opportunity to take a break from the rigors of care giving responsibilities. Respite Care is provided on a first-come, space-available basis. There is no guarantee that a bed may be reserved for a specific timeframe. The program may provide one-time support for first month’s rent, past-due rent/mortgage and utility bills, and utility deposits for electric, water, and gas.

(Child Care Connection Hawaii, Arbor, CCCH) Child Care Subsidy (CCS) program helps low-income families to sustain their employment, educational efforts and job training by paying a subsidy for their children who are in the care of Department of Human Services (DHS)-approved child care providers. Unless child care is required for protective purposes, families must meet income and activity requirements to qualify for this subsidy program.

Pacific Birth Collective provides mother-baby supplies distribution including diapers, formula, hygiene items, etc. We accept donations of diapers, wipes, formula, etc.

Kokua Support Services provides Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, and After Care Treatment for clients who require this level of care.

(Family Peace Center - Oahu, FPC) Oahu Family Peace Center teaches non-violent problem-solving skills for families struggling with adult aggression and behavioral dysfunction. The program emphasizes partnership, equality, and respect among families. The center provides support for survivors/victims and child witnesses of domestic violence that includes individual and group counseling, case management, parental classes, community referrals, and legal system advocacy. Support for offenders includes violence intervention groups. Community education and training for schools, community groups, and agencies available. Groups area available after hours in the evening. (ATV, Alternatives to Violence) Professional counselors on call to help youth who are in psychiatric crisis or to supplement the efforts of their caregivers. Counselors can refer clients to specialized, short-term, out-of-home placement when needed. Youth Services groups are offered in both East and West Hawaii to both boys and girls ages 12 years old - 17 years old who are deemed perpetrators of harm. The focus of this group is to offer tools for reducing impulsive behaviors, improving self esteem and increasing the level of social competence as well as addressing the dynamics of adolescent victimization. The Youth Service groups are 20 weeks long and group is once per week; however, times and days of group may vary by location.
