Issues commercial and individual fishing licenses and permits. Researches the biology, ecology and use of fishery resources. Serves as federal liaison when protected marine animals are stranded. Species include monk seals, sea turtles, whales. Documents ocean and river water pollution incidents such as oil and chemical spills. Conducts public education on marine and fresh water information through community and educational groups.

The Hawaii Interim Housing Program (HIHP) has closed applications for the housing program. For those persons needing post disaster housing assistance, please contact your Disaster Case Manager (DCM) or Outreach Care Navigator (OCN) with the Disaster Case Management Program (DCMP). Ka Lai Ola is a temporary housing development that is located in West Lahaina within walking distance of Lahaina Civic Center. It will house 1,500 wildfire survivors until 2029. Ka Lai Ola will contain approximately 450 modular residential units, including a combination of studio, 1, 2, and 3 bedroom homes for independent living with full kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas.

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring, and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music and dance, seasonal activities and crafts, excursions and swimming. (HUOA) The Legacy Ballroom is a fully air-conditioned, multi-functional auditorium/theater and banquet hall, featuring a 40 foot wide theater stage, a professional lighting and sound system and a large projection screen that drops from above the stage. A beautiful garden provides the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding and picture taking. The Ballroom can accommodate up to 800 guests for a sit-down banquet or up to 1,200 guests for a stand-up reception or in a theater style sitting configuration. The Legacy Ballroom can also be divided into two smaller rooms, Legacy I and Legacy II. Our Legacy I Ballroom seats (min.) 200 to 350 (max.) guests, and our Legacy II Ballroom seats (min.) 125 to 200 (max.) guests.

(Domestic Violence Services for Families) When child abuse occurs in the home, violent behavior towards spouses and others is also often present. After a family is required to enter the child welfare system and is discovered to be experiencing other forms of domestic violence a care plan is developed for each family member. Services are then provided for both survivors (victims) and batterers (perpetrators) of violent behavior. Survivors create a safety plan and are offered various supportive services. Batterers are assessed and provided opportunities to learn alternative attitudes and behaviors. This program works with families involved in the child welfare system who are also experiencing domestic violence. Staff work with each family to assess for domestic violence and/or risk factors related to domestic violence. A care plan is developed for each family member. The services that are available for each family include: Domestic Violence Survivor Support and Pattern Changing Groups for Victims, Individual Counseling and Support for each family member, Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focusing on children, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Children’s Support Groups, and/or Adolescent Support Groups.

The University of Hawaii Cancer Center collaborates with many local hospitals to conduct and support clinical trials, or studies of newer treatments.

Services include hiring events, career counseling and goal setting, employment and education information, classes on resume writing (federal and private sector), interviewing, building a LinkedIn profile, and conducting a job search.

(VASH, Travelers Aid of Honolulu) The mission of Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii (VASH) is to share Aloha with visitors who have been victims of a crime or other adversities, and to provide follow-up assistance and support in an effort to create a positive memory of their stay in our islands. The type of assistance provided varies on a case by case basis. Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii offers assistance and support through information and referrals, emergency ground transportation, and resources for meals and lodging. Assistance is also provided with changes to travel plans and for emotional support. We do not pay for airline tickets, hotel stays, medical or dental expenses, and funeral expenses.
