(EEM, Rapid Response Landlord-Tenant Mediation) The Mediation Center of the Pacific helps landlords and tenants negotiate realistic payment plans and maintain a positive working relationship through video conference. Landlords and tenants work with an impartial mediator who will help them discuss a variety of options such as payment plans, temporary rent reductions, deferred payments, and other creative solutions that will enable the landlord to continue receiving some level of payment and enable the tenants to craft a realistic future for remaining in their rental. If landlord and tenant have flexible schedules, mediation sessions can be scheduled in 5 business days. All mediation sessions are held on Zoom.

(Hawaii Relief Program) Catholic Charities Hawaii has been contracted to administer the Hawaii Relief Program. Eligible applicants may receive up to four months of financial assistance, including: -Up to 4 months of rent or mortgage (up to $6,000 per month) -One time security deposit (actual housing deposit amount up to the maximum of $6,000) -Up to 4 months of utility assistance ($2,000 per month per utility source) -One time Utility deposit (up to $3,000 per utility source). Utility payments may include electricity, gas, or water expense, or a combination of these utility sources. Water expense may include sewer service fees. Payments are made directly to landlords, mortgage lenders, or utility providers. (MEO) Assists individuals and families with farm work experience to obtain year round full-time employment. The program provides pre-employment training, work experience, on-the-job training, and support services.

(HAP) The Housing Assistance Program (HAP) serves senior adults, aged 60 years or older, who need housing counseling and assistance to find affordable housing. Priority is given to those with the greatest economic and social needs and those facing homelessness. HAP helps to improve and maintain their self-sufficiency and remain in the community by increasing their accessibility to affordable and supported housing and by empowering them to make difficult life transitions. The program provides housing counseling and linkages to housing resources, assistance to remain on housing wait lists, updates of the Oahu Housing Guide list/database, and education and advocacy to promote the development of new affordable, supportive, well-designed rental housing. Serves current and former foster youth in Hawai‘i who are transitioning out of the foster care system, into adulthood. Youth identified as requiring intensive mental health services may be enrolled with the Department of Health (DOH) Family Guidance Center (FGC) located in the school district of their home school. They are assigned an FGC Mental Health Care Coordinator (MHCC) at that time. The youth may, and often will, continue to receive School-Based Behavioral Health (SBBH) services and supports from the Department of Education (DOE) in conjunction with the intensive mental health services.

Youth drop into the space and are given the opportunity to earn a bike by learning how to fix and maintain a bike in addition to volunteering to help maintain the flow of the shop. Each year there are 400 donated bikes that are refurbished by youth and about 4000 bikes are repaired though 9000 youth service hours.

Kokua Harvest is Hawaii Island’s food rescue project. We prevent food waste at its source, build community resilience and connection, and strengthen access to healthy, nutrient-dense fresh fruit and vegetables. We harvest and distribute excess produce to low-income communities throughout Hawaii Island. Through the act of rescuing and sharing food, we connect and nourish our community to build stronger relationships and a deeper appreciation for food. Food rescue (also known as “gleaning”) is the ancient tradition of collecting excess fresh food from farms, gardens, restaurants, or other sources and donating it to those in need. It is a successful model for reducing the waste of valuable produce, and it gives low-income individuals access to fresh and locally-grown foods that are not always available in their communities. Hawaii is fortunate to have a year-round growing season and a long cultural tradition of sharing and growing food. Still, every year thousands of pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables go to waste on farms large and small. Backyard fruit trees and excess garden produce also go unharvested. (Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk.
