The Office of Housing and Community Development is responsible for the planning, administration and operation of all of the County of Hawai‘i’s housing programs such as the Section 8 rental assistance for qualified families. Its overall goal is to provide for the development of viable communities in Hawaii County by providing decent housing, suitable living environments and expanding economic opportunities.

The Hawaii Council on Economic Education's (HCEE) mission is to increase the economic literacy of Hawaii's students, teachers and residents. HCEE implements its mission by promoting and improving the teaching of economic concepts in Hawaii's public and private schools through conducting teacher training programs and providing grade level K-12 appropriate teaching materials. Currently, it is not required that students in Hawaii complete a course in economics or personal finance prior to graduating from high school. This may not sound like it has negative consequences, however consider that students from states where a financial education course is required have the highest reported financial knowledge and are more likely to display positive financial behaviors. State of Hawaii Department of Defense's Public Affairs Office responds to emergencies involving natural disasters or war.

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration.

Provides volunteers for the MPRRC races, Tinman Triathlon and other charity fun run activities. Volunteers will be acknowledged and appreciated for their community service.

(Youth Shelter, Youth Shelter - Maui) Provides 24-hour emergency shelter for youth 10 - 17 years. Offers individual, family and group counseling. Provides substance abuse prevention, educational services, including tutoring, transportation to the public schools and GED preparation. Organizes cultural, recreational and community activities. Provides after care follow-up to youth and their families returning to a home situation. Provides case management services for independent clients.

The CDC National Prevention Information Network (NPIN) is the U.S. reference and referral service for information on HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and tuberculosis (TB). NPIN is a next-generation clearinghouse that collects and disseminates data and materials to support the work of prevention organizations and workers in international, national, state, and local settings. Our services are designed to facilitate program collaboration in sharing information, resources, published materials, research, and trends among the four diseases.

(Domestic Abuse Shelter) Domestic Abuse Shelters provide a safe haven for abused partners and their children. It is a time-out period for abused partners to learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, the cycle of abuse and how to develop a "safety plan". It is also a time for learning about and making choices; discovering that they are not at fault for the abuse; building self-esteem and learning self-empowerment. The Domestic Abuse Shelters help families and children escape from domestic violence and establish independent lives. The Shelter offers up to 120 days of a safe haven, basic needs (food, clothing etc.), counseling and services for children. Program participants learn dynamics of domestic violence, develop safety plans, improve self-esteem and learn healthy parenting skills. Children develop safety plans and learn they’re not responsible for domestic violence. The shelters offer: -Domestic violence crisis hotline -Lodging and food -Crisis counseling -Individual counseling -Educational workshops -Support groups -Information, referral & advocacy -Children's program -Assistance with obtaining a TRO (Temporary Restraining Order), housing and financial aid -Volunteer program Clients learn dynamics of domestic violence, develop safety plan, improve self-esteem and learn healthy parenting skills.
