(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. Keiki ages 11 years old - 17 years old will learn ocean safety from City lifeguards at no cost. Children will learn rescue boards, rescue tubes, and near-shore search and rescue techniques from some of the City and County of Honolulu lifeguards. Keiki will also get an introduction to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid. Classes are free and will be held during the fall break from school: October 9-13, 2023. (VASH - Kauai) Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii (VASH) provides supportive services to meet the immediate and urgent needs of visitors to Hawaii Island who are victimized by crime, have medical emergencies, or suffer other adversities during their stay. Immediate needs may include assistance with canceling credit cards, providing emergency transportation, or garnering resources (soliciting donations) for food and lodging. VASH relies heavily on donations and community support. When needed resources are not readily available, we will make requests and network with other agencies to try and meet needs.
