(Hoa 'Aina O Makaha) Hoa Aina O Makaha provides programs based on Hawaiian cultural values and traditions. The focus is on strengthening family sustainability through activities that encourages family participation. Hoa Aina O Makaha is a resource to the schools by providing interactive hands-on activities that broadens understanding of subject matter and enhances classroom lesson plans; activities include gardening projects and animal care. Small scale agricultural farming produces herbs and other produce.

Provides technical knowledge and information to commercial fisheries and aquaculture farms to increase production methods, processing and resource management. Receives, evaluates and distributes harvest data of commercial fish resources. Experiments with fish habitat and provides prawn seedlings as authorized. Maintains statewide fish aggregating buoy system to attract pelagic species.

Raises and distributes funds to non-profit projects on Molokai. Does not provide financial aid to individuals. Provides direct assistance in management, incubation and funding to non-profit programs and projects that address community needs. Applications for funding are accepted annually.

The Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) continues to closely monitor the federal government shutdown and its potential impact on programs that provide essential food assistance to Hawaii families. If the federal shutdown continues into November, federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program may be unavailable, which could delay or prevent the issuance of November benefits. Keiki ages 11 years old - 17 years old will learn ocean safety from City lifeguards at no cost. Children will learn rescue boards, rescue tubes, and near-shore search and rescue techniques from some of the City and County of Honolulu lifeguards. Keiki will also get an introduction to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid. Classes are free and will be held during the fall break from school: October 9-13, 2023. Each session will run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Dates and locations are: -Monday, October 9, 2023 - Kualoa Beach Park -Tuesday, October 10, 2023 - “Sherwoods,” which is Hunananiho, or Waimanalo Bay Beach Park -Wednesday, October 11, 2023 - Pokai Bay Beach Park -Thursday, October 12, 2023 - Kaimana Beach -Friday, October 13, 2023 - Kailua Beach Park Enrollment is first come, first served basis. Youth small boat day sailing. Youth from 8 years - 20 years old participant in day time sailing activities on boats that range from 8 ft to 30 ft. Activities divided into programs for 8 -12 years and 12 years and older. Programs include basic sailing, intermediate sailing and racing. Sailing is an Olympic sport that can be done as an individual or team. Our programs provide children/teens opportunity to develop independent as well as co-operative thinking, healthy outdoor activities and beneficial adult mentoring. Big Island Sailing Foundation facilitates sailing "day camps" primarliy on the Kona coast. Summer camps are in June - July; Winter break camp at the end of December and Spring camps each year.
