Assists persons recovering from mild to catastrophic strokes who may need to make major physical and psychological adjustments to cope with paralysis, speech problems, cognitive deficits, swallowing disorders, and visual perception difficulties. Assesses and treats swallowing disorders. Provides mobility training or wheelchair skills. Develops adaptive techniques and custom-designed equipment. Provides speech theraphy. Computer therapy for visual, perceptual, and cognitive training. Stroke Support Group meets every first Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. Offers an annual volunteer training program. Holds informational meetings regarding the training and sets up interviews with each interested person. After initial screening, potential volunteers attend 36 hours of training held over the course of one month. Sessions focus on educating the group about death and dying, grief and bereavement. Through teaching active listening and doing extensive role-playing, volunteers learn about the various stages of the dying process.

This program provides intensive outpatient treatment for men and women with substance abuse issues. Services include the following: comprehensive screening and assessment, intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy, individual counseling, gender specific groups, family and couples counseling, parenting classes, alcohol and drug education, and case management services.

The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. Youth Services groups are offered in both East and West Hawaii to both boys and girls ages 12-17 who are deemed perpetrators of harm. The focus of this group is to offer tools for reducing impulsive behaviors, improving self esteem and increasing the level of social competence as well as addressing the dynamics of adolescent victimization. The Youth Service groups are 20 weeks long and group is once per week; however, times and days of group may vary by location.

Investigates all drug complaints. We register and investigate all violations of persons who administer, prescribe, manufacture or dispense controlled substances in the State, including those who work at methadone clinics. The Division is also responsible for Hawaii’s Electronic Prescription Accountability System (e-Pass) which monitor’s all Schedule II through V controlled substance prescriptions filled in the State of Hawaii.
