Kauai Independent Food Bank

The Kauai Independent Food Bank (KIFB) provides food to the needy on the island making food and products available to agency partner distributions sites. KIFB serves homeless, elderly, children and those experiencing temporary emergencies. KIFB also has a vocational rehabilitation program, operates Keiki Cafe and a Backpack Program as well as provides nutrition education assistance.
KIFB makes referrals for food to the public (individuals needing food). Referrals are made to the 50 distribution sites throughout Kauai and specifically non-profit member agencies and churches on Kauai.

Families who are accepted into our program can live at the National Home in a single family home for up to four years while working with a professional case worker to set goals and make plans for the future. Families also have access to educational, recreational and enrichment opportunities. Community resources and counseling referrals are provided as needed. Medicaid Fraud Control Unit
The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) investigates and prosecutes provider fraud involving medical assistance programs, as well as patient abuse and neglect statewide. MFCU's jurisdiction over Medicaid Fraud consists largely of provider theft of Medicaid funds through deceptive claims made with the state Medicaid program.
Some types of deceptive claims are:
-claims for services not rendered
-multiple claims for a single service or supply
-billing at a higher rate than permitted for the service or supply provided
MFCU's jurisdiction over abuse consists largely or pysical violence, neglect, and financial exploitation of dependent adults committed by Medicaid providers, care facilities, and paid caregivers. MFCU is authorized to proceed criminally and/or civilly. MFCU's jurisdiction over civil false Medicaid claims consists largely of unlawful provider activity that results in inappropriate claims from the Medicaid program.
