A persistent or recurrent phobic aversion to and avoidance of sexual contact with a sexual partner. Individuals report anxiety, fear or disgust when confronted by a sexual opportunity with a partner. The aversion may related to a particular aspect of the sexual experience (e.g., genital secretions, vaginal penetration), but some individuals experience generalized revulsion to all sexual stimuli including kissing and touching. This disorder frequently results from a traumatic sexual experience, e.g., molestation or sexual assault.
