Taxonomy: Acquired Language Disorders

Conditions caused by an injury or a disease (often a stroke or traumatic brain injury) that affect an individual's ability to understand or formulate both spoken and written language. While aphasia is the medical term used for the full loss of language, and dysphasia for a partial loss, the word aphasia is commonly used to refer to any of each condition when it occurs or develops some time during the person’s lifespan but is not present at birth.
