Programs that help nonprofit boards establish a committee structure that supports the ability of the board and staff to accomplish their work. Activities include identifying the types of committees the board will require; developing written descriptions of committee responsibilities, guidelines and goals; determining the optimum size of committees and how committee chairs and members will be selected; assigning staff to work with each committee; developing a work plan for each committee; developing a system for monitoring committee work to ensure that progress in being made; and establishing mechanisms for sharing recommendations from committees with the full board.
