Libraries that archive, organize, preserve and make available to students, scholars and the public collections of sound recordings, video recordings, sheet music, musical scores, autograph music manuscripts, newspaper clippings, photographs, musical programs, printed books and periodicals, archival collections and electronic resources including access to databases and e-journals devoted to music. Included are libraries that specialize in a particular type of music (e.g., orchestral music, radio music, folk music) and those that document the art of music in all of its diversity: opera, spirituals, ragtime, jazz, musical theater, film, world music, orchestral music, rock and pop music. Many offer a variety of other services such as information and orientation programs, reference services on site or via the Internet, public lectures, seminars and exhibitions.
