Programs that issue warnings regarding potential terrorist incidents involving the intentional release of chemical agents with the objective of doing harm. Included may be chemical weapons developed for military use; toxic industrial and commercial chemicals that are produced, transported and stored in the making of petroleum, textiles, plastics, fertilizers, paper, foods, pesticides, household cleaners and other products; or chemical toxins of biological origin such as ricin. Warnings identify the type of health hazard involved; the area likely to be affected (if known); steps that people can take to protect themselves, e.g., sheltering in place; the etiology, symptoms, preventive measures, screening/diagnostic procedures and/or treatment or management of illnesses or other health conditions victims may acquire as a result of an attack; and the types and location of appropriate medical facilities.
