Taxonomy: Health Savings Accounts

Organizations that provide opportunities for individuals and families to open tax-sheltered Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) that can be used to pay for qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses including deductibles and co-payments. Contributions that people make to their HSAs are tax deductible. HSAs are only available to individuals who are covered by high deductible health plans, i.e., those with annual deductibles of at least $1,000 for individuals and $2,000 for families, and out-of-pocket expenses limits for $5,500 for an individual and $10,000 for a family. Individuals eligible for an HSA may also have certain other types of coverage in addition to their high-deductible plan. Permitted types of additional insurance include coverage for accidents, disability, dental care, vision care and long-term care.
