Institutions that acquire, preserve, research and exhibit permanent and/or traveling collections of artifacts which relate primarily to the history of the automobile but also to the development and use of motorcycles, trucks, buses, fire engines and other motor vehicles. Included may be material related to the impact of the automobile (or other motor vehicles) on a specific community or region; exhibits which demonstrate the functioning of the combustion engine and show its evolution over time; automotive art; historical photographs; memorabilia of famous persons in the automobile industry; model cars, trucks, buses, fire engines and other vehicles; and authentic vehicles from different eras including classic and vintage automobiles, racing cars, cars produced by a particular manufacturer, cars (such as the Batmobile) featured in motion pictures, cars owned by famous people, racing and touring motorcycles, antique fire engines, buses, and vehicles used in motor sports.
