Programs that provide organized opportunities for individuals to pursue their interest in collecting animation or cartoon art, often through the medium of a club or society which is under the leadership of people who are knowledgeable in the subject. Collectibles may include animation cels (pieces of clear plastic which have been hand-painted, placed over a background and photographed for use in a film), non-production cels developed specifically for collectors, original concept drawings, layout drawings, artwork for posters developed for a particular animated film, artwork associated with cartoon strips, or other animation/cartoon art. Activities may include sharing information about animation/cartoon art, criteria for value and current prices; exchanging tips on purchasing and caring for animation art; and opportunities for members to trade animation/cartoon art, attend collector's fairs or otherwise make further acquisitions for their collections. Included are Internet-based virtual clubs, WebRings devoted to the subject and clubs where members meet face-to-face.
