Programs that provide organized opportunities for individuals to pursue their interest in macrame, the art of knotting rope, cords, yarn or other materials in geometrical patterns to create wall hangings, plant hangers and a wide variety of other decorative and useful objects, often through the medium of a club or society which is under the leadership of people who are knowledgeable in the subject. Activities may include lectures by people with macrame expertise; demonstrations of basic knotting techniques; and regular meetings at which members share information about current projects, enjoy the company of other macrame enthusiasts and have time to work on their projects. Some macrame clubs may also provide space for activities, arrange for discounts on materials, sponsor exhibits or sales of macrame art pieces created by members, publish a newsletter or provide access to a library of resources about the craft. Included are Internet-based virtual clubs, WebRings devoted to the subject and clubs where members meet face-to-face.
