Automobile racing events that feature paid professional drivers. Included are Indy car events sanctioned by CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) which feature open wheeled, open cockpit cars; drag racing events sanctioned by NHRA (the National Hot Rod Association) and other official bodies which feature Top Fuel Cars, Funny Cars and Pro Stock Cars; stock car events sanctioned by NASCAR (the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) which feature automobiles that bear a superficial resemblance to the street models they represent but are built strictly for racing; sports car events sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) which feature street, stock, sports and touring cars; off-road racing events which feature stadium racing sanctioned by the United States Hot Rod Association (USHRA) and off-road desert races such as the Baja 500 and 1000 sanctioned by SCORE, International; and racing events sanctioned by the United States Auto Club which feature sprints and midgets. Included are organizations that sponsor, organize, hold, promote, sell tickets to and publicize the events; provide information about race schedules; and/or maintain information about current standings.
