Taxonomy: Thermometers

Programs that pay for or provide medical thermometers that are used to measure and indicate a person's temperature. Options include regular digital thermometers that can be used in the mouth, armpit or rectum, and employ electronic heat sensors to record body temperature; digital ear thermometers, also called tympanic thermometers, which use an infrared ray to measure the temperature inside the ear canal; digital pacifier thermometers for use with young children who are accustomed to pacifiers; temporal artery thermometers (often sold as "forehead thermometers") that use an infrared scanner to measure the temperature of the temporal artery in the forehead; and mercury thermometers which use mercury encased in glass to measure body temperature. Mercury thermometers are no longer recommended because they can break and allow toxic mercury to escape.
