Programs that provide a hotline, website or other mechanisms that the public can use to report incidents of insurance fraud involving staged motor vehicle accidents; accidents that are reported but never took place; false reports of lost or damaged automobile parts; false reports of stolen or vandalized vehicles; or automobile repair bills that are excessive, contain false or unauthorized charges, or charge for new parts when secondhand (junkyard) parts were actually used. Automobile insurance fraud may be committed by organized auto accident rings which intentionally rear end innocent victims to collect insurance or recruit people in the community to file false reports; or by insured individuals and/or body shops that make false claims.
