Taxonomy: Pre-Release Centers

Small, homelike residential facilities located in the community that provide supervised living for prison inmates who have a prescribed amount of time (usually 120 days or less) to serve of their sentences and whose behavior during their prison stay has been satisfactory. The centers, which function as a component of the correctional system, offer an alternative to the direct release of the offender from prison to the community and give the person an opportunity to adjust to the community in a gradual, controlled manner. Programming for residents generally includes counseling, assistance in locating employment, life skills training, seminars on parenting and domestic violence and other forms of support.
