Individuals who supervise offenders on probation or parole through personal contact with the offender and his or her family with the objective of ensuring that the person stays out of trouble and complies with the conditions of his or her release. Also included are pretrial services officers who conduct pretrial investigations of criminal suspects when they are arrested by police, present their findings which help to determine whether a suspect should be released before their trial and supervise suspects who are released before their trial to ensure that they adhere to the terms of their release and that they show up for their trial; correctional treatment specialists who counsel prison inmates and help them plan for their release from incarceration; and parole officers who supervise offenders who have been released from prison on parole to ensure that they comply with the conditions of their parole.
