Taxonomy: Anthropology Research

Programs that conduct research which focuses on the origin and the physical, social and cultural development and behavior of humans. Some studies deal with the way of life, archaeological remains, language or physical characteristics of people in various parts of the world. Others compare the customs, values and social patterns of different cultures. Social scientists working in this area include linguistic anthropologists who study the role of, and changes in, language over time in various cultures; biophysical anthropologists who study the evolution of the human body, look for the earliest evidences of human life and analyze how culture and biology influence one another; and ethnologists who study the origin, development, distinguishing characteristics and geographical distribution of human races. Most anthropologists specialize in a particular region of the world.
