Institutions that acquire, preserve, research and exhibit permanent and/or traveling collections of artifacts which relate to the history of currency, either generally or from a particular country or period. Included may be examples of coins, tokens, medals and paper money (bank notes and scrip) from different eras; beads, wampum or other objects that once served as money; plasters, art objects and other memorabilia associated with notable numismatic engravers; coins associated with or collected by famous personages; historical artifacts associated with a particular mint; and exhibits that illustrate stages in the development of a monetary economy.
