Competitions that feature solo, duet, and team events in which one, two, or teams of eight swimmers perform choreographed maneuvers synchronized to music. Swimmers perform a technical routine with required elements in a specified sequence and a free routine in which there are no restrictions on music and choreography. Judging is based on technical merit (execution, synchronization with one another and with the music, and level of difficulty) and on artistic impression (creativity and fluidity of the movements, musical interpretation, and the poise and confidence with which the routine is presented). Included are organizations that sponsor, organize, hold, promote, sell tickets to, and publicize the events; provide information about competition schedules; and/or maintain information about current standings.
