Competitions in which athletes execute dives from springboards or diving platforms of different heights (one meter, three meters and 10 meters), either individually or in synchronized pairs. Dives may be forward, backward, reverse (gainers) or inward, incorporate a twist, or be performed from an armstand; and feature different positions including those in which the body is straight, bent at the waist (pike position) or tucked. Divers are required to perform a set number of dives selected from each type and are judged on their approach to the dive, their takeoff, their elevation, the execution of the dive (mechanics, technique, form and grace) and their entry into the water. The difficulty level of selected dives is also a rating factor. Included are organizations that sponsor, organize, hold, promote, sell tickets to and publicize the events; provide information about competition schedules; and/or maintain information about current standings.
